PEPPERELL — Chief Todd Blain is pleased to report that a Pepperell Police K-9 was able to successfully track a missing 5-year-old child on Tuesday, locating the girl safely after just 45 minutes.
On Tuesday, Feb. 27, at approximately 3 p.m., the Pepperell Police Department responded to a residence in town for a report of a missing 5-year-old girl on the autism spectrum.
Officers responded immediately and began a search of the home and the area around it, quickly determining the girl was not in her home.
Officers set up a search perimeter in the area, and Pepperell Police Department K-9 Taro and his partner, Officer Daniel Adams, began an area search. K-9 Taro picked up a scent trail that took him directly to the child, who was found about 45 minutes after she was reported missing, about 200 yards from her home near a brook.
Sgt. John Coburn then carried the child back to her home and reunited her with her family. The child was not injured and did not require medical transport after she was found.
